Geez Louise! It's crazy! I can't believe how quickly time is passing by! It's now officially just under four months until Lindsay and I take our month long trip to France and Italy. It's been over a year in the planning, and even longer in terms of dreaming of taking such a trip. We had originally intended to go for last month (October '08) when we started planning the trip a year ago, but due to the fact that both Lindsay and I work for the same small company, and we both fill senior roles there, it was impossible to plan for October - as it is typically a very busy month. This year proved no different than others, which makes it easier to justify waiting until March of '09. The new year usually starts of busy in January/February, but by March it slows to a point that will allow us to both leave at the same time. Supposedly March is also a very un-crowded time to go to Europe, which, despite it not being super warm, will prove to make things alot more relaxed I think. It obviously also makes it alot cheaper, which is key. The Canadian dollar is starting to pull ahead again versus the Euro, which again only helps to make the trip cheaper as well. It's currently cost almost exactly $1.50 Canadian for every one Euro. If it can hold at this value, than we should arrive just under the budget that I made a year ago. My fingers are crossed, lol.
So now at four months to go there are really only two things that are supposed to be done at this point apart from all of the planning: a booked flight, and the purchase of some good walking shoes. The flight has been booked for two months now, which has been well documented in previous posts, lol. This just leaves the shoes. So, we have a few idea's of where to go to get some, but there don't seem to be many options. The key here is to do it right: go to a shoe store that actually has trained employees who can look at your walk, check out your feet type, and recommend a good shoe. There are only two places that we've heard of that do this: one is called The Running Room, and the other Walking on a Cloud (or something like that). We plan to check out those places relatively soon, and then try and break in the shoes a little before we go, something that will be a little hard during the winter months ahead, but whatever, no big deal.
Next month will have a few more To-Do items, followed by a few more in January, and February. Let's hope I can pace myself, as I have a tendency to want to do everything at once 'cause I'm so excited.
Another exciting event on the horizon is Christmas, I love Christmas. I love this time of year that leads up to Christmas, and I always have. I know that it's cold, and nature seems to die away, but I love the atmosphere, the Christmas lights, the fact that it's cold and we can have fires in our fireplace, the family time... I just love it all. Linds and I like to do most of our Christmas shopping in November, which proves to be such a smart way of living. Instead of being all stressed out in December, we get to be totally laid back and stress free. Also, we usually get the Christmas lights up around mid-November, and the inside decorations up by the end of November. I just love the atmosphere of a lit Christmas tree on a cold night, with a fire in the fireplace, and all the lights off. It just puts me at such enormous peace, it's pretty cool.
That's it for now, check back soon!
